The Slate Is Clean

Game one of the new year is here. Let me know if you can make it.

Point gathering is changing a bit to reflect the number of people that are playing. Also there is one (1) bonus point for taking someone out, two (2) for taking out the previous years TOC winner and three (3) for the last winner. ~~There is no last winner this time since this is the start of the year.~~ Like last years first game the bounty is on the TOC winner. So that one is worth 5 points this year.

Also we are going to start right at 7. Positions and first deal will be set by an impartial independent party. If you have RSVP'd and are late your blinds will be put in. If you haven't RSVP'd and show up late you will start with 15k in chips instead of 20k and the late window will extend for the first round only.

I think we're going to change who gets into the final tourney this year also. Top 10 in points and/or finishing 1st in any of the 12 games.

I think everything else is the same. The host supplies snacks/drinks and we'll pitch in to order pizza if you want to. Same buy-in $30 and rake off for the final years tourney.

Well the first game of the year is complete. We had twelve players this time. It went pretty well. The "Taste of Tunica" was interesting but I don't think everyone enjoyed it. So I'm not sure we'll be having any more.

Tunica = Loss of $$

Don't get me wrong I had a good time a Tunica for the WSOP circuit event but the satellites are a crap shoot (not that I know how to play craps either). It is pretty much about luck. If you don't get good cards you won't win. With that in mind we're going to have a "Taste of Tunica" event prior to our monthly game. The buy-in will be less but the format the same. So bring an extra $5 to experience it for yourself.

$5 gets you T500 (that means $500 in tournament chips). Each level last 15 min. Blinds as follows.
Round 1 - $25/$25
Round 2 - $25/$50
Round 3 - $50/$100
Race off $25 chips
Round 4 - $100/$200
Round 5 - $200/$400

Winner take all...This shouldn't last very long, but it'll be fun.

I've been toying with the idea of raising the buy-in. This will allow for a little more of a rake for the annual pot and still allow for a reasonable payout for the nightly pot. Let me know what you think. I've figured in an average house rake for beverages so that may adjust up or down depending on what gets consumed, which lately hasn't been much. So here is the structure I'm contemplating. Let me know any comments or questions.

Henry Wins

It was a hard fought battle but Henry's chips decided they liked him more. The first annual Four Card Straight tournament of champions (and second place finishers) is over. For the most part the big chip stacks lasted until the end and the little stacks hung on for dear life. We played with Henry's chips, which I think that he has them rigged. We play twice with them and he wins both times?!? I'm thinking he should retire them, not for his sake but for ours.

We took a little poll and decided to stick with Wednesday nights so the next one will be on January 18. The points system seemed to work OK, we didn't really talk about the format of the game, just when it would be. If anyone wants anything changed we can talk about it on the 18th. I think we should have a TOC bounty of one point if you take Henry out in any one of our games.

Well, congrats to Henry, even though your taking some of my Tunica money. I suppose I'll have to win it back this coming year.

It’s over…

Well another poker night has come and gone. Henry came to play and came out on top increasing his points along with Robert and Jamie. Once again the cards and I just don’t seem to get along very well. My three pocket pairs did not treat me very well. Pocket Aces got everyone to fold to a raise. Pocket Kings were folded to an Ace on the flop and a reraise. And pocket tens smoked my magical pocket eights, oh well, that’s poker.

Anyway the final table is set for the 21st at Kevin’s house. Right now we have eleven at the table. I’m not sure if they are going to all show we’ll have to get a count. Final points are updated.

In my rush to get out of Kevin's house I misplaced the finishing list. Well it finally showed back up. We had a pretty good game, read that as I finished better than Kevin. Eleven people showed so we had to split to two tables until we got to eight.

The next game is coming up. Wednesday Sep. 28 at 7:00 p.m. Change of venue. We are going to have it at Kevin's place. Just in case it stay as warm as it is now.

It seemed to work out pretty good last time to not rake the game for food and drink. If we want some food we'll order Domino's and collect some extra from there. Bring anything else you may think you need. I have beer so don't worry about that.

DD Poker 2

We've been talking for a while about trying to get some online games going. Using an online site didn't really fit our needs, customizable game being one of the main things. DD Poker to the rescue.

Version 2 of DD poker includes the ability to set up and host your own online games. One person is the host and everyone else connects to their box. The only catch is that you need the software. It costs, $29.99. You can get $5 off; just as Kevin I'm sure he'll give you the full story. If you want the $5 off, Click on this link.

I've played a few online games and it works pretty well. Kevin and I played a few times heads-up as well. If some more people get it we can coordinate getting some games going.

We also have a teamspeak server set up so we can talk to each other. This hasn't quite been tested correctly yet, but we're working on it. Of course my dial up connection sucks.

There was a game last night. Last I heard they had nine people playing, sounds like a good number.

I haven't heard how it went. I'm interested in hearing how Henry's online practice helps... or not.

I went to the Gateway Grizzlies game last night with the family. We all had a pretty good time. The girls each got a baseball, which they had a couple of players autograph.

I also got to go on the field for the bed races. My Mom and I against my sister-in-law and her son. It was pretty fun, right up to the point when my Mom flew off the bed. I missed the tumble, I was too busy celebrating the victory. Arms in the air, playing up to the crowd, while Mom was on the turf under a mattress.

She was OK, no harm right. It was fun, we called it a tie.

Sometimes I feel like I play poker with birds. I can't seem to keep my focus. Lately there have been a whole lot of calling stations around the table and I can't seem to adapt. Family Poker

Looks like some fun this weekend. A little gathing of some family that I haven't seen a while and a couple of friends that I see every day (I think they just show for the poker).

I'm in my big let down week. After a pretty good game last Wednesday, now there is nothing much to look forward to. Online poker has sort of lost its luster and going all in versus Alex and Emma just doesn't have much of an effect.

I find myself searching the channel guide for any kind of fix. You know it's bad when you can figure out withing 5 seconds if you've already seen the poker show on just by who's sitting at the table. Celebrity poker is a waste of time, it's like watching Wes play for two hours.

I need a new hobby.

The Letdown

It has been a while since I've had a real post here. The last game went to 2 a.m. and I got up and made it to work by 7. I think I'm still tired... We had a pretty big build up to the game and then AJ dropped eary, Jeff got tons of bad beats, Kevin forgot his "new aggressive" style and the rest is history.

Glad to see Henry in the money though. However, we may have created a new pro, making a living at the boats. Can you say subsidising your retirement. Hopefully that money will still spend at our games.

You know the 2005 WSOP is in June this year ( June 2, 2005 – July 15, 2005) the Main Event starts on July 7. Make your reservations now, it's only $10,000.

You know they have to mean something since they have two decimal places.

What the hell am I looking at?
For our games the players are ranked only if they have come in first or second in game in the last 12. The last 12 games are looked at and weighted the most resent being weighted higher. A player gets points by how they finished, bonus points for getting the bounty and bonus points for how hard the table was. We check the alignment of the stars, look to see which of the astronomical signs the sun is in and then add/multiply/divide and whammo, a number pops out and you have a ranking.

Any complaints will probably go unanswered and questions can be posted here.

I'm a poker moron

I got my poker feathers all fluffed up and thought I was the poker god. So I decided to enter in a hold em tournament. I suppose that you may be able to tell that it didn't go to well.

48 people entered, each started with $1000 in chips. Blinds started at $10/$20 and raised every 1/2 hour.

I got pretty much crap for cards the entire day. I made it past the fourth round and then the wheels fell off. One stupid hand takes pretty much everyting. Two pair beat by a straight.

Anyway, it was fun. I wish the cards would have come though.

A little quicky

The President's day game didn't go to bad. Seems like AJ's hot and Jeff's not.

AJ picked up the pot again, I got a sloppy second. I didn't feel like I got to many good cards, enough though I shouldn't complain. I just have to stop going all in heads up witth a Q 7 offsuit, witht a K on the board.

We played the entire game with the new Copag cards and I think they worked out fine. They are different than the KEM's but at 1/2 the price and more available, they worked out fine. I just need to get a jumbo index set so Kevin can play and not see and 8 when it was a 9, or was it 9 when it was an 8.

Anyway, there were seven at the table and it was one of the quickest games I've been in. I think that it took at the most 2 1/2 hours. The blinds weren't raised on a time schedule but as people dropped, it stil went pretty quickly.

I reallly didn't get my poker fix though. I guess I'll have to see what March will bring, althought it doesn't look to good. I'll be able to make the "monthy" game on the 16th, but my anniversary is the 18 so that weekend is out

Game two is in the books. We had a light crowd, five people, but the game was good.

We tested out the new table covering, no more fuzzies. The black velveteen worked out pretty good. Along with the padding it was a pretty good surface. Next up is a rail. Let's hope I get it done by the next one.

Maybe the warmer weather will bring out a few more players.

A bounty system was introduced tonight, to add a litte extra to the game. It works like this:
The winner from the previous round has a three point bounty on their head. The person who takes out the last winner gets a three point bonus for the night. If more than one person is in the pot it is the one who either calls the all in or puts the person in. If the person doesn't show, no bounty applies.
